Frozen Shoulder

FROZEN SHOULDER, also known as "Adhesive Capsulitis" is a painful disorder that results in stiffness and loss of movement in the shoulder.

3 STAGES of frozen shoulder:

Stage 1 – Freezing: A slow onset of pain that can last from six weeks to nine months. As the pain worsens, the shoulder loses motion.
Stage 2 – Frozen: Marked by a slow improvement in pain, but stiffness remains.
Stage 3 – Thawing: Shoulder motion slowly returns to normal over a five to 26 month period.

PHYSICAL THERAPY MANAGEMENT:

1. Pendulum stretch
2.Towel stretch
3. Finger walk
4. Anterior shoulder stretch
5. Cross body reach
6. Outward rotation
7. Inward rotation
8. PRIC
( Protection from doing sternous activities involving shoulder).
Rest.
Icing for 15 minutes every 2 hours.
Compression with elastic bandage.

9. Modalities (TENS , SWD etc)
10. NSAIDs ( Aspirin, ibuprofen etc)
11. Steroid Injections
12. Hydrodilatation ( This procedure involves gently injecting a large volume of sterile fluid into the shoulder joint to expand and stretch the shoulder joint capsule).
